Nepali Congress (NC) Chairman Sushil Koirala, 78 has been elected as PM of new government to be formed. In the election held today at CA building, Koirala secured more than two third majority votes, and was announced by CA Spokesperson Surya Bahadur Thapa as the PM of new government to be formed. Out of total of 571 votes, Koirala secured 405 votes. Though Koirala was the only candidate for PM election, he got 148 votes in opposition from 20 other parties including UCPN (M). With the election, Koirala has become the 5th PM of Federal Republic of Nepal.
Still up yesterday, the PM election wasn’t certain to be held since CPN-UML, UCPN (M) and other parties were on argument with NC regarding the election of President and Vice-President. It became possible only after CPN-UML, second largest party at Legislature Parliament, signed a seven-point agreement later yesterday in support of NC led government. Today, along with CPN-UML, other parties including RPP, CPN-ML, NMKP, RJ, CPN United, Pariwar Dal and Samajwadi Janata Party also voted in favor of Koirala.

In the CA Election 2013 held earlier, Koirala had won in two constituencies from Banke – 3 and Chitwan – 4. He has already withdrawn from Chitwan – 4. As Koirala is elected as the PM of new government to be formed, the acting Interim Government of Nepal will be dissolved. Speaking at the Parliament meeting held later, CPN-UML PP Leader KP Sharma Oli and RPP(N) PP Leader Kamal Thapa congratulated Koirala and wish for his successful tenure. They said that they are hopeful that Koirala would run the new government with balanced political equations. Also, they warned Koirala to withdraw the support if the new government wouldn’t keep the promises and agreements.
At the Parliament meeting, Koirala, before being elected, said that he would work for maintaining and establishing peace in the nation. He also promised to hold unity and agreements between the political parties in developing coordination among for drafting the constitution. Koirala also promised to hold local elections within upcoming six months. Thanking UCPN (M) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal for his contribution in peace process of the nation, Koirala accentuated to improve economic condition of the nation. He also underscored to maintain constitutional law and discouraging corruption in the nation.
