NC and UML Dialogue for New Government Formation
With the concluding results of Constituent Assembly Election II 2013, Nepali Congress (NC) and Communist Party of Nepal-United Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) have become the two largest parties with CA seats of 196 and 175 seats respectively. Now, there is indirect dialogue ongoing between NC and CPN-UML leaders forward for formation of new government.
While CPN-UML has asked NC to pick between the President and the Prime Minister as part of a respectable power sharing, General Secretary Ishwor Pokhrel told that NC possesses right to choose first. UML leaders want NC to discuss over top five posts: president, vice-president, prime minister, speaker and chair of Constitutional Committee; but NC president Sushil Koirala has asked UML chair Jhala Nath Khanal to negate the dialogue for a new president, in a meet on Thursday.
Koirala said that he will be soon talking with other major parties to form an understanding and ensure their participation in the process of making of new government and timely promulgation of new constitution as per the mandate of CA Election. Despite the fact that some UML leaders are being susceptible for government formation and constitution writing process will halt again, chairman of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum, Democratic, Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadhar told that his party will support the government formed under political agreement with NC leading the government.
