Tihar begins starting with Kaag Tihar today!
One of the second largest festivals of Hindus, Tihar is being observed all over Nepal starting from today. On its first day, people celebrate it by worshipping feeding crows. The festival will last for five days starting from today.
Crows are regarded as messengers in the Nepali society and the first day is devoted to worshiping and feeding them.
The festival will be followed by Kukur Tihar, Gai Tihar, Goru Tihar and Bhai Tika. The festival is popular for strengthening bonds between brothers and sisters as Bhai Tika remains as the main highlight among the celebrations. On the day of Bhai Tika, sisters put Tika praying for long-life and prosperity of their brothers, while brothers in turn give gifts to their sisters.
Also known as Festival of lights, people decorate their homes with lights and worship goddess Laxmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth on third day of the festival.
Happy Kaag Tihar everyone!
