Poet and Lyricist Binod Gauchan Bids Adieu

One of the famous lyricists of Nepali Music Industry, Binod Gauchan has died this morning at the age of 58. He died at the ICU of Gandaki Hospital in Pokhara, where he had been going through treatment for last five days. He had been suffering long since two weeks from cardiac and urinal contagions.

His all-time best songs, “Jati Maya Laye Pani”, “Tagaro Ma Rumal Rakhi” and “Kasto Thau Ma Fulyau Timi” are typical of Nepali folk music, people still humming the songs on their patois. He has been accredited with other dozens of songs, heightening the Nepali Music Industry. As a poet, his two poem anthologies, Dhunge Saghu Ko Mela Ma (1998) and Pokhara Ma Phool Phuldaina (2005), are also published. Gauchan has been twice awarded the third prize in the Poetry Festival organized by Nepal Academy in 1982 and 1987.

Lyricist Gauchan had also declared Lumle Village of Kaski as ‘Poetic Village’ with a movement from Samrakshan Kavita Andolan. The movement was started by Sarubhakta in Pokara in 1995. Gauchan, for his constructive efforts in stimulating rural tourism, is greatly admired by the literature society of Pokhara.
