Nepal Telecom to Start a Social Networking Service
While the communication users around the world are occupied by several social networking services, Nepal Telecom (NT) has also planned to launch a similar social networking service. Some of the famous social networks having hype among the users are: Facebook, Twitter, Skype, Viber, and many other chat messengers. According to authorities, NT is in the final stage of developing the service. NT has proclaimed that the service will be launched by the end of February. The upcoming social networking service of NT will have integrated features alike in Facebook, Skype, Viber, and YouTube and group message along with other value added services.
NT, on the celebration of its 10th anniversary, made the announcement that the service will be launched within a month. But, the acclaimed service isn’t named yet. Managing Director at NT, Anup Ranjan Bhattarai, said that the service will be introduced with a name within a week. Bhattarai also said, “The top viewed popular site in Nepal, Facebook, has been winding a great value of dollar from Nepal via internet users. Also, the bandwidth usage has increased with the rise of Facebook users.”
NT will be featuring its new service with local contents and the server of the service will also be placed in Nepal. For now, the data sent from Facebook users have to reach the server station in America. Once the NT’s new service is launched, it is expected that the users will have better internet speed with quality data usage. With this new IP call enabled service, NT customers will be able to add friends, chat and group message, download/upload photos and videos, share photos, post status and do comments. Also, the users can have free SMS service from the NT’s upcoming social network.
Director at IT Directorate of NT, Shiva Bhusan Lal, confidently stated that the new service will be saving 50-70% of money value outgoing through the bandwidth of Facebook data usage. He further added, “Even mobile users can enjoy high speed internet at best value with this upcoming social networking service. At start, NT has targeted some 1 m users, which will be soon upgraded to capacity of 10 m users. Alongside, NT also promises to upgrade the social networking experience with additional services, based on the user demand.”
NT has stated that the software installation process of the service has completed and is in assessment phase now. This hopeful Social Network Service Development project was carried in agreement with TeleDNA Communications based on Bangalore in India. It is stated that the project cost Rs. 90 m to NT. NT, formerly providing data service via simple telephony, GSM and CDMA, has hopefully invested in social networking service lately.
