Why do you want to participate in this pageant?
I want to participate in this pageant as it opens doors to build networks and communities home away from home. Being part and winning the pageant will allow me to be the bridge between cultures, people and two great nations. My role as a youth leader will help me collaborate ideas, projects on social justice issues, stay in touch with my Nepali roots and give me wings to explore opportunities for social entrepreneurship.
If you are selected for this title, what platform or issue will you speak throughout the year ?
If I am selected for this title, (for the time being) I have two goals in mind. First, to talk about gender and sexuality in Nepal as they are not mutually exclusive; and how they have been compromised in our very patriarchal, multi-ethnic, multi-religious, multi-class, multi-caste based society. I will speak about how these structures work together to feed in oppression and will campaign against it. I would like to start a campaign where the focus shifts from educating girls about being safe to also educating boys about the oppressive structure and hence, their oppressive behaviors. Second, as a youth leader, I would like to establish a medium where youths in the US and abroad elsewhere, learn about job opportunities back home. I want to focus on this because a lot of youth are not aware about the opportunities back home and prefer not to be connected with their roots. I would also be open to taking up new challenges and projects that come up before me. Above all, I would love to stick to gender and the social entrepreneurship side.
