Death of Director Shiva Regmi, a Great Loss to Nepali Movies Industry

One of the senior directors of Nepali film industry, Shiva Regmi has died of kidney failure this morning at the age of 49. Director Regmi had been suffering for long from kidney problems and was undergoing regular treatment for past nine months.

While Regmi’s younger brother, Saroj  had decided to donate his kidney, the transplantation couldn’t take place as Shiva Regmi caught pneumonia during the treatment process. Sources confirm his death  at 5.45 this morning at Vayodha Hospital, where he was brought for treatment few days ago.

Regmi, born in 1965, started his early career from theatre and debuted as a director with his own script, Afanta in 1999. He has total of 19 movies to his credit as director and writer, out of which Afno Manchhe (2001), Sukha Dukha (2002), Duniya (2005), Maanis (2006), Kaha Bhetiyela (2008) and Hasi Deu Ek Phera (2009) were his success which won him several awards. His latest movies Mann Le Mann Lai Chhunchha and Parai are still awaiting release this year.

Several actors, film industrialists and relatives who went to express their condolences to his departed soul and the bereaved family. The General Secretary of Film Producers Association of Nepal, Keshab Bhattarai said that the death of director Regmi has left an unbearable loss to Nepali film industry.
