Nepal’s Victory over Uganda, Nepali Cricket Team Relegates in Division 3

Nepali Cricket Team has won the 9th place play-off in ICC Cricket World Cup 2013/2014 held in New Zealand. Nepal got victory over Uganda by 160 runs in its last game. Nepal got its contemplation win, setting a target of 241 with two balls remaining. After winning the toss, Nepal elected to bat and followed victory with the highest of 59 runs from Prithu Baskota. To the sum of 240, Sharad Veswakar added 41 runs, 35 runs were added by Binod Bhandari and Captain Paras Khadka contributed 30 runs. Pradeep Airee and Mahesh Chhetri couldn’t protect their wickets after 23 and 19 runs. While the hit man Gyanendra Malla returned with 8 runs, Basanta Regmi also made 6 runs only. Shakti Gauchan and Sagar Pun added the figures of 5 and 2 runs, and Sompal Kami was not out with 1 run.

Uganda was all out in 36.3 overs with 80 runs only. For Nepal, Sagar Pun took three wickets and Basanta Regmi also fell down one wicket. The hard bowlers, Sompal Kami and Shakti Gauchan cost two wickets each for Uganda. Uganda is also in relegation after a defeat with Canada by 59 runs. The victory over Uganda has remained only a consolation win for Nepal since, Nepal got defeated in its earlier game with Netherlands. In the 7th place play-off match, Nepal got defeated with Netherlands by 7 wickets with 109 balls remaining. After winning the play-off matches, Canada and Netherlands have remained in Division 2.

After the bearing of defeat with Netherlands, Nepal has been relegated in Division 3. Nepal couldn’t improve its ranking even after being in Division 3 for a year. Nepal was the division champion in the tournament held last year in Bermuda. Nepal was expecting to play the World Cup Qualifiers, but couldn’t play well since the players were in the pitch with injuries. Nepal has already been selected for the fifth ICC T20 World Cup 2014 to be held in Bangladesh.
